You may have seen recent media coverage about a cybersecurity incident involving a patient portal used by some general practices in New Zealand. It’s completely understandable if this has raised questions or concerns about whether your own health information is secure.

We want to reassure you that our practice uses the Well app.

We chose Well because it’s designed differently from some other patient portals. It does not extract or retain full patient records or ongoing clinical histories outside our practice systems. Your medical record continues to be held and managed securely by our practice as the trusted source.

Because of this approach, patients using Well are not exposed to this risk in the way described in the recent media coverage.

There is no action required from patients using the Well app. You can continue to use it as normal.
